Healthy sugar free apple bake is an easy dessert that can be made in small or large quantities. This recipe is enough for a 10×10 inch baking dish or the size of a large pie.

Ingredients

To make this you will need:

  • 4 apples
  • 12 dates
  • Enough water to cover the dates
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup shredded dried coconut
  • Cinnamon (1/2 tsp)
  • Nutmeg (1/4 tsp)
  • Allspice (1/4 tsp)
  • Cloves (1/4 tsp)

Instructions

I prefer to keep the skin on the apples to add more fibre. Make sure to thoroughly wash the apples before using. No sugar is necessary; dates add sweetness, but because of their high fibre content, dates have a low glycemic index. This healthy sugar free apple bake can be a good choice for people who are trying to eat less sugar, those who are avoiding processed sweeteners, or people with diabetes.

You can have dessert without worrying about eating something unhealthy. This apple bake has high fibre, no artificial sweeteners or added sugar, and tastes delicious. No one will know it is healthy if you don’t mention the ingredients.

Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees convection (or 375 regular non-convection oven).

Slice the 4 apples into evenly sized slices, about 2cm thick. Put the apple slices in the baking dish.

Add 12 dates, enough water to cover the dates,  and1 tsp vanilla to a blender jar. Blend until smooth (10 – 20 seconds in a Vitamix).

Pour the date mixture over the apples and stir to coat all the apple slices.

Make the topping by mixing the remaining ingredients in a measuring cup or bowl, and stirring together (oats, coconut, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, cloves)

Sprinkle the topping ingredients evenly on top of the apples in the baking dish.

Put the baking dish into the preheated oven, and bake at 350 degrees for 15 Minutes. The healthy sugar free apple bake should be hot and lightly browned. You can bake it longer for softer apples, or reduce baking time by up to 5 minutes if you want the apples to remain crisp.

Serve this apple bake hot or cold.
