Often called nice cream, blended frozen fruit can make a delicious and easy vegan strawberry ice cream treat. This ice cream is dairy free and healthy!
Vegan strawberry ice cream is easy to make. Starting with frozen fruit, you can make ice cream in just a few minutes. For the perfect texture you will need a Vitamix or other high powered blender. A regular blender will not make the ice cream smooth enough.
If you don’t have a high speed blender, you can use a food processor. The ice cream will not be completely smooth, but it will still taste good!
Ingredients
The ingredients are simple. This vegan strawberry ice cream includes maple syrup, plant-based milk (optional), vanilla extract, a frozen banana, and frozen strawberries.
Sugar Free Vegan Ice Cream Ingredients
For a sugar-free vegan ice cream, replace the maple syrup with dates. You will need:
- Dates
- Plant-based milk
- Vanilla Extract
- A frozen banana
- Frozen strawberries
Instructions
To make sugar-free non-dairy ice cream, begin by blending the dates, vanilla extract and plant milk until completely smooth. From here, the steps are the same for both versions.
- Add all ingredients to a blending jar.
- Follow the instructions for your particular blender. Using a Vitamix, I start on low speed and slowly increase to high speed. Then I use a tamper to keep pushing the ingredients down to the blades. Finally, I stop blending when the mixture is smooth. The blending process takes about a minute.
- Serve immediately for soft serve dairy-free ice cream. For hard ice cream, add the mixture to a metal or plastic freezer-safe container and freeze for a couple of hours.
Easily customize this recipe to your liking by adding additional ingredients, such as other kinds of frozen fruit or cocoa powder, before blending. Or you can add chocolate chips, seeds, or nuts after blending. Just stir them in with a spoon.
To make peach vegan ice cream, swap strawberries for frozen peaches. Mangos and pineapples are also delicious options. Remember to start with frozen fruits for that smooth, creamy texture.
Plant milk is optional, but I find that it gives a creamy consistency more like ice cream. Leave out the plant milk if you would prefer a sorbet rather than ice cream.
Banana is not essential, but I like the smooth sweetness it provides as a base. If you don’t like bananas or do not want to use them, other fruits can be substituted. Avocado is a neutral-tasting and smooth option. You can even buy frozen avocado pieces at many grocery stores.
Enjoy this delicious vegan ice cream – it is actually good for you!
